Contrarily to the previous downhill mountain biking I have done in Vancouver where I would take the fun fun and adrenaline-rushing routes you can race down at maximum speed, this route on the other hand was a totally new and thrilling experience.
Before we hit the downhill I mentioned, we started cycling from Delvera Estate in Stellenbosch, through vineyards and on dirt back roads.
The sun was flaring that day and the ride was tough. We climbed extremely steep sections, keeping our eyes on the prize… Finally, dripping with sweat, we reached the top of where we wanted to go and our, well at least my, heart started racing as we saw the treacherous down-hill single track that lay before our wheels.
Mike was right in front of me, fearlessly swerving through and dominating all the rocks and bumps and stumps in his way. I on the other hand was a little more cautious as I didn’t really feel like falling flat on my face or straight down the hill for that matter… However as soon as the rocky bit cleared up a little and only a smooth switchback single track remained, I let go of my brakes and my need for speed was very satisfied! Sticky and feeling fabulous after the ride, we indulged in Dizzys Pizzas in Camp’s Bay and a delicious swim under the stars when we got home and it was dark….
Another Wonderful Day in Cape Town!
