If you are around Cape Town and happen to be in the Green Point area, you must make a point of stopping at this very trendy italian hangout.
Delicious coffees and freshly baked pastries are divine in the morning at the outdoor balcony bar as you enter the deli.
Once you walk into the door it is so easy to get lost amongst all the delicious food that is literally in display all around you. They have amazing deli salads and other goods like hummus and different patés.
Their ready-made meals ranging from fish, to poultry, to red meat and more, are perfect if you are in a rush or don’t have the time or energy to cook a nice dinner. They also have a fantastic selection of cheeses and hams.
The quality of their products is way beyond great.
There’s also a whole corner dedicated to a variety of artisanal breads and bagels etc.
My favorite thing to do is pick a bagel and give it to the counter where you can then instruct one of the ladies which ingredients you would like to have on your custom-made gourmet sandwich and they will make it for you.

My go-to, and obsession, is a poppy or sesame seed bagel with a fat layer of cream cheese and lots of smoked salmon with a generous squeeze of lemon to top it all off. There’s just not enough great things one can say about Giovanni’s.
